Sister Sea

We are mutual friends, you and I.

I hold many of your precious treasures in my grasp,

Some to be found, and some to be lost as long as time lasts.

But beware.

Due to your faults, retaliation may be the cost.

I supply you with nourishment and entertainment,

I amaze you with my splendid blue, green, and white rolling waves,

Despite all of my gifts, you do not honor my strength

Nor the mighty power in my veins.

I am more powerful than your machines,

And I am as necessary as the air you breath.

Yet, you throw your waste into my tides and turn the other cheek,

Completely ignorant of the poor soul

Who wonders whether we will or won’t

Survive the night while it hides out of reach.

Often, when our agreement is not met,

I send humanity a reminder of my power ,

In the form of deafening waves,

To make my message clearer and louder,

And prove that I am worth being saved.

See what I am and what I will always be.

Sincerely, Your sister, the Sea
